This is the post that informs you that this journal is primarily friends-only. I used to have another post here, but it had old comments on it and I was getting tired of it looking me in the face.
What isn't friends only will be fic and the occasional rambling recap of whatever TV show I'm watching at the moment.
Comment if you want to be added. If not, I'll assume you're friending me to follow whatever craptastic fanfiction I'm pumping out at the moment.

This is why
psychesky rocks my world.
Awesome things about Wrath of Con '09:
Hanging out with
lyssie. Hanging out with Scraps and her awesome dude. Seeing Fantome in concert with singer
psychesky dressed as Rose Tyler. Enjoying beautiful late May weather at the seaside. The swimming pool. Wacky adventures involving my truck.
Know what these things have in common? While they all happened this weekend, I don't exactly need to go to a con to experience them. Wrath of Con 2009 was, in a word, lamesauce. If it even survives this year, the only way I'm doing it next year is if they get a guest I'm actually interested in seeing. And I'm only gonna daytrip it, because that was godawful. I'm sure that part of it is the economy, but that wasn't all of it. There were four or five panels scheduled for today. Nobody showed up to attend the first, but the second two? The panelists didn't bother to show up. The people organizing the damn con need to decide if they want to actually promote and run the convention, or party like moronic attendees. There's nothing bad about doing that at a con--but not if you're running it.
These are just observations from what I was seeing. I know Scraps was seeing some improvements over last year, in fact.
I drove home via the scenic route along the seaside. This would have been a better idea if I hadn't eaten a carb-heavy meal early in the drive and thus was feeling the sleepies coming on between Apalachicola and Carabelle. Or if I had actually bothered to stop and go wading.
I'd put together a more coherent con report, but there wasn't much of a con to report.
[ETA] Because I'm so tired, I'm not sure if I'm communicating clearly. So I just wanna restate: my issues are with the con and how it ran this year. My friends--old and new--are fucking awesome human beings and I have no idea of how I got to be this spoiled, but I am so very thankful for it.
[COUSIN OF ETA] There are three new inhabitants of The Shelf, though none of them are who I planned. :D
[ETA'S CHILDHOOD PAL] I would also like to know what cock didn't let the band use the stage erected and forced them to the corner. That was bullshit. That would be bullshit even if it weren't my friend's band.

This season is going to be heavy on the screencaps, so I'm splitting it into two pieces. This one covers up to Bane.
My episode order is the DVD order.
( Blah blah blah-bity blah blah blah. )

These range from a couple of short paragraphs to just sentences of my impressions of SG-1 S1. Sort of. I'm going by the order on my DVDs, as that's the only order I have to go by.

It's well known that I'm a fan of Big Finish and their work. What they've done for Doctor Who, as a franchise, is amazing. They've rehabilitated some of the least liked Doctors and companions, told wonderful stories, and created some of my favorite pieces of storytelling in that universe. Flat out.
Now, I'm not gonna lie. Mostly because I've already established in this journal that the reason I started watching Stargate this time was that I couldn't wait for the Farscape rewatch to start and I needed to see something with Ben Browder and Claudia Black. (...and I ended up getting a jump on the rewatch anyhow. Oops.)
The fact that it has a Big Finish line? Icing. When they first announced it, I had glanced toward my DVD set of SG-1 S1 (which I had bought and started watching ages ago, and then sort of wandered off after a while) and pondered starting it again, but never did.
Well, now...I'm already watching it. And #1.3, Shell Game, features Vala and Daniel. I had to acquire it and listen to it. So here's my notes and comments about what I've heard...oh, twice now. I had to get the thoughts down, y'see.
( Cut for spoilers, natter. )

I hate doing these. I do. But I'm getting overcrowded, and--some of you I just don't think I have anything in common with anymore. Maybe we knew one another through fandom or mutual friends, but we don't really talk ourselves? I don't think it's very fair to go automatically scrolling past posts. So, yeah. Um. It's really nothing against any of you.
I also ditched a lot of comms today.

Disclaimer: I took the caps in this little reactionpost. It is all of the nerdbait. Perhaps later on, I shall do an illustrated review focusing on the people who are not nerdbait, as they are quite splendid. But for now? I have this review--and in it, I promise not to put any Battlestar Galactica spoilers.
Except possibly for the state of Lee Adama's hair. ( Cut for spoilers for L&O:UK and also for picspamminess. )
